The Selma Housing Authority delivered teamed up with several organizations in Dallas County to give masks for its residents last weekend.

Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum, Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford were among the volunteers that went door to door giving out masks in the SHA’s four housing areas: GWC, Valley Creek, Rangedale and Phyllis Heights.

Mayor Darrio Melton’s Office, Dallas County Schools, Selma City Schools, Selma Police Department (SPD), Dallas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO), Gospel of Tabernacle Church, Alpha Phi Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta and Zeta Phi Beta were also represented.

SHA Executive Director Kennard Randolph said he appreciated all of the different local organizations helping out.

“It’s great that we can come together,” Randolph said.  “The well-being of our residents is of utmost importance to my team.”

Randolph said it’s been tough for the SHA, who closed its closed its main office to the public until further notice two months ago because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s a very challenging time,” Randolph said. “We want to make sure that our residents have the necessary things during this coronavirus. We believe that things will be better.”
