Jeremy Lee set a high standard of excellence during his athletic career at Morgan Academy.

Lee is named The Selma Times-Journal baseball player of the year.

Two years ago, Lee was named The Selma Times-Journal football player of the year, becoming a rare player to win both awards.

“It’s a big honor just to get nominated for the player of the year in football and baseball,” Lee said humbly. “Hopefully, more kids will follow in my footsteps to play both sports.”

The South Alabama baseball signee threw four career no-hitters dating back to a career that began at Meadowview Christian School. He transferred to Morgan Academy in 2018.

“Being named baseball player of the year is awesome because of all the baseball talent we have in Selma and Dallas County,” Lee said. “It’s an honor.”

Lee’s prep baseball career ended with a no-hitter against Fort Dale on March 10. Three days later, Gov. Kay Ivey ordered the closing of K-12 schools statewide and the AISA ending spring sports.

“I worked hard the whole year to have your senior year as the best to end because of the coronavirus,” Lee said. “It leaves a bitter taste.”

Lee impressively did a balancing act for the Senators, earning AISA All-State honors in football, baseball and basketball by the Alabama Sportswriters Association (ASWA). He was AISA pitcher of the year last season.

Lee played quarterback and punter for the Senators’ football team. He was combo guard who averaged 21 points a game as a senior on the basketball team.

Lee said he’s looking forward to playing baseball at South Alabama. He signed with the Jaguars during the NCAA Fall Signing period in November.

“I’m ready to play college baseball,” Lee said.

Lee plans to add another chapter to his athletic career at the Division I school based in Mobile.
