Dallas County High School held its graduation ceremony on Friday night at Martin Stadium in Plantersville.

One hundred five seniors received their diplomas before limited family and friends because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Class Valedictorian Alyssa Frederick delivered the farewell address and she spoke about the coronavirus’ impact on the Class of 2020. The future University of Montevallo student expressed disappointment when Gov. Kay Ivey ordered the closing of schools statewide K-12 on March 13 and forced online learning.

“The COVID-19 pandemic affected us,” Frederick said. “For the Dallas County High School Class of 2020I wish you good luck in the future.”

Class Salutatorian Braxton Talbot delivered the welcome address and appreciated the chance to walk on stage to receive a diploma. He will attend the University of West Alabama and major in Biology.

“My speech is about being grateful for Dallas County High School,” Talbot said. “It meant a lot to have a graduation ceremony.”

Class President Tamia Sharpe delivered the opening remarks. Sharpe plans to study at Alabama A&M University where she will major in Biology with a minor in business administration.

The Dallas County High class of 2020 earned over a combined $1 million in college scholarship money from 25 different students.

Sharpe led the way with over $225,000 earned. Emily Threadgill will receive $100,000 in scholarship funds from Huntingdon College.
