The murder case of a Selma man was turned over to the Dallas County Grand Jury Tuesday.

At Melvin Jerome Marshall’s preliminary hearing on Tuesday, Dallas County District Court Judge Bob Armstrong turned Marshall’s murder case to the Dallas County Grand Jury.

Marshall, 44, was charged with murder, first-degree domestic violence assault and discharging into an occupied vehicle on April 13.

Selma Police Department Sgt. Ray Blanks said the fatal shooting took place at 3:22 p.m. on April 11 at the 3000 block of Burgandy Avenue. The SPD arrived on the scene after responding to a call of two gunshot victims. Marshall shot two African-American women, ages 56, and 20. The older woman, Renesia Levon Caver, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Jackson said Marshall turned himself in to a bounty hunter on Easter Sunday and arrested by the Selma Police Department.  Armstrong arraigned Marshall in the Dallas County Courtroom on April 12 and set bond at $500,000.

Jackson said Marshall’s bond remains at $500,000 and he remains locked in the Dallas County Jail.

“There has been an uptick in domestic violence cases in Dallas County during this coronavirus crisis,” Jackson said. “Fortunately, we have agencies such as SABRA Sanctuary that is available during these trying times.”
