Dr. William B. “Barry” Green-Burns passed away on the 4th of May 2020 following an extended illness.

Barry is survived by his mother, Frances Condit, a sister, Joyce Burns Thomas, two daughters, Katherine King (Charles),  Elizabeth Buttram (Jeremy) and a son William. He is preceded in death by his father William N. Green who was died when Barry was only 9 months old. He is also preceded by his step-father William W. Burns and grandmother Marie S. Burns of Selma.

He graduated from Spring Hill College in 1969 where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha social fraternity. He began his teaching career at Central Alabama Academy and St James School while continuing his own education earning two Master’s Degrees. He continued his career in Education as the Guidance Counselor at Wallace Community College in Selma before moving to Tuscaloosa to pursue his doctorate, graduating in 1979. He spent his career in various positions counseling at-risk adolescents and in academic education. He was honored to be named emeritus professor in Counselor Education at University of West Alabama upon his retirement in 2017.

Barry was a lover of music, history, and Auburn Football. Barry especially loved his career as a teacher. Barry was an active member of St James Episcopal Church in Livingston for many years before moving to Montgomery.

Graveside Services will be held in Old Live Oak Cemetery on June 6, 2020 at 11 a.m.  officiated by The Reverend Robert Wisnewski of St John’s Episcopal Church in Montgomery. Honorary pallbearers are Dan Hoke, Don Blanton, Cecil Fuller, Jeremy Buttram and Charles King.
