Members of Martin Luther King, Jr. Street First Baptist Church stopped by Selma Health and Rehabilitation Center on Thursday afternoon to present the facilities employees with a free meal as they care for the elderly amid the COVID-19 pandemic.“We got together and decided to do something special for the essential workers here at Selma Health and Rehabilitation,” said First Baptist Church Deacon Billy Young. “We have a very special bond with this facility because they have one of our essential workers, our pastor’s wife is employed here. We want to take care of her and everyone she is in contact with. We feel that this facility truly provides and essential service because they take care of others. It is our belief that you should take care of those who take care of others.”Each of the facility’s employee’s will receive a free meal from Hardee’s.
“We want to thank Hardee’s for working with us as well with this endeavor,” said Young.
To practice safe social distancing and avoid contact with the facility’s employees and the patients they care for, the were given to them in the form of a gift certificate so they can have the meal at their convenience.
Selma Health and Rehabilitation Administrator Dennis Davis expressed his thanks to First Baptist for their contribution during the trying times everyone in the facility is going through.
“The community’s support and presence definitely boosts morale for the employees,” said Davis. “It’s encouraging to our staff on the front lines to know that there’s people outside of these walls giving them their support as they protect the community, especially our elderly population.”
“We’re always happy to provide service to others, especially during times like these,” said First Baptist Pastor Fredrick Hardy. “My wife is here and we just wanted to show support to her and all the other employees here and the administrator and let everyone know that there are some individuals that really are concerned and on the front lines right with them.
