Robert “Bob” Joseph Perry Sr.

Robert “Bob” Joseph Perry, Sr. was born in Marion on May 6, 1929. He was the fourth of ten children born to David and Lela Perry.

Robert attended and graduated from Lincoln High School in Marion Alabama. He went on to attend college at Tuskegee Institute for two years before being drafted into the United States Army, and served in the Korean War in the 2nd Infantry Division, Company K, 123rd Platoon, Sergeant First Class from September 1952 until he was honorably discharged July 1954.

Robert returned to Tuskegee Institute to complete his studies and graduated with his degree in Industrial Arts. He went on to attend Alabama A&M University and graduated with his Masters of Science Degree in Trade and Industrial Education.

In 1955, he and Anna Louise DeYampert were married in and to this union five children were born. She was called to be with God in December 1983.

Upon moving to Selma, he became an active member of Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church and served on the Steward and Trustee Boards and sang in the church choir. For 32 years, he taught in the Selma City School System, teaching Social Studies before teaching Industrial Arts. Around Selma he was known as the “Shop Man” because of his craft and passion for woodworking and cabinetry skills.

He married Hallie Jordan in February 1985. He retired from teaching in 1989, but he continued to be self employed with his side business of refinishing furniture, building cabinets and doing handy work. He was a long time member of the Chesterfield Club civic organization and he was also a Lincolnite.

Robert was an avid outdoorsman….he loved to fish and hunt, and he had love of sports such as baseball and football.

Robert was called to his final resting place by his Heavenly Father on May 3, 2020, in Montgomery.

Robert can be viewed on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at Brown Chapel AME Church, Selma,.

A graveside service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 in Serenity Memorial Gardens, Selma. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Robert Perry’s name to Brown Chapel AME Church, 410 Martin Luther King Street, Selma, Alabama 36703
