The Dallas County Sheriff Office made a drug bust last weekend.

The DCSO arrested Ashley Rush and Samuel Taylor for drug trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and possession of a firearm without a permit Sunday on the Selma Bypass.

Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum Rush and Taylor were driving a car without a tag and pulled over by a deputy. Granthum said the deputy saw an open container and smelled marijuana in the car. The deputy also found crystal meth, marijuana, pills, a gun and $1,600 in cash inside the vehicle.

Rush and Taylor are both in the Dallas County Jail on $1.5 million bail each.

“If you’re trafficking drugs and driving without a tag, that doesn’t make you very smart,” Granthum said.

Granthum said arrests on drugs and domestic violence have increased since the coronavirus struck in March.

“Since the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve seen our robberies and burglaries go down, but we’ve seen an uptick on drug charges and domestic violence,” Granthum said.

Granthum said a $300,000 ADECA federal grant has helped the department successfully battle crime in the county.

“One third of the amount has gone to overtime and we beefed up our patrol,” Granthum said.
