A Selma man waived his preliminary hearing last week.

Keatrick Lewis waived his preliminary hearing to a Dallas County Grand Jury during a bond hearing on April 18, according to Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson.

Jackson said that Lewis is charged with second degree assault and promoting prison contraband. Jackson also said that Lewis allegedly kicked a Correctional Officer in the stomach at the Dallas County Jail.

Dallas County District Court Judge Bob Armstrong kept Lewis’ bond at $15,000. Lewis remains locked in the Dallas County Jail.

Jackson said people who run the jail and prisons are in tough situations.

“These jailers and correctional officers have a very tough job running the jail and the prisons,” Jackson said. “Violence against them will not be tolerated.”

Lewis has a prior arrest record in Dallas County, according to The Selma Times-Journal incident reports dating back to 2011.

Nicknamed “Slime Madness,” Lewis was charged with violating federal probation and failure to update on June 1, 2017. Lewis was also charged with failure to register on July 13, 2018. Lewis violated probation on April 22, 2011.

“Lewis is on federal parole,” Jackson said. “He has a federal hold on him right now. He will have a hearing on that coming soon.”
