Three A.M.E. Zion Churches in Selma donated several boxes of pizza to the staff at Park Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Wednesday.

Pastors and members of Clinton Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, College Hill A.M.E. Zion Church and Grove Hill A.M.E. Zion Church gave 21 boxes of pizza to Park Place employees during the lunch hour. Mimi Daniel of Dominos Pizza made the delivery.

Pastors James Jackson of College Hill A.M.E. Zion Church and Frankie Hutchens of Grove Hill A.M.E. Zion both said they wanted to give thanks to the workers battling through the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Giving back means it’s a missionary duty for the church to get out and feed those who can’t go out and get food,” Jackson said.

Hutchens agreed with Jackson.

“It means a lot for us to give back,” Hutchens said. “With the coronavirus, we’re all in this together. We wanted to give thanks to the nurses and first responders for doing a great job. We wanted the nurses and first responders to know that we appreciate them.”

Church members Cleo James, Willie Bell McCants and Irving Cook all attended the pizza delivery event.

Clinton Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church Pastor Linda Reeves was unable to attend the pizza delivery gathering.
