When Clifton Reeves became Keith High’s head basketball coach three years ago, he knew about the high expectations.

Reeves is quickly making his own mark on the Bears’ program.

For the second time in the last three seasons, Reeves is The Selma Times-Journal boys basketball coach of the year.

“It’s a great honor being named coach of the year, but I can’t credit for our success,” Reeves said. “Having great players and a great coaching staff helps tremendously. I couldn’t do this without them.”

Reeves also credits Keith High Principal Tommy Tisdale Jr. for his development as a top-flight coach. Reeves spent nine years as an assistant coach under Tisdale. When Tisdale became Keith High Principal, Reeves was promoted as the Bears’ head coach.

“I learned a great deal under Tommy Tisdale,” Reeves said. “I learned how to put in the time and work to  have a good basketball program. I learned how to run summer programs and set up playing dates. I want to keep the high standard of basketball at Keith High going.”

Tisdale is pleased how Reeves has put his own stamp on the Bears’ program.

“Being coach of the year is a big accomplishment, that speaks volumes for the work Coach Reeves has put in,” Tisdale said. “Three years, two Regional appearances. I like to think our program is in good hands with Clifton Reeves.”
