In response to the COVID – 19 pandemic, the Selma – Dallas County YMCA temporarily closed the doors on Friday at noon.

“With our staff and members’ best interest in mind, we have thoughtfully decided to temporarily close our facility,” said YMCA Community Outreach Liaison Austin Williams. “We will remain closed for at least the next two weeks, with a tentative reopen date [scheduled] for Monday, April 6, 2020.”

Due to its temporary closure, Williams said that the YMCA’s two forthcoming events – the Daddy Daughter Dance and the Easter Egg-stravaganza – will be postponed until further notice.

“We believe that we are better together, and together we will see ourselves through this difficult time,” said Williams.

According to a statement from the Selma – Dallas County Ymca’s Board of Directors, the decision to close the facility is to ensure the safety of everyone in the community.

The statement from the board of directors also announced that updates regarding the YMCA’s closure will be posted regularly to their Facebook page and website – ymcaofselma.org.

During the COVID-19 outbreak, the YMCA asks the community to adhere to the Centers for Disease Control guidelines including staying away from large crowds, staying home if symptoms arise and practicing proper hygiene.
