Valentine’s Day usually falls under my radar.

For some, February 14th is one of the most special days of the year, especially on the romantic side. Having Valentine’s Day, also called Saint Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, fall on a Friday helped matters.

On Feb. 14, couples occasionally get engaged or married after a gold-tipped arrow from a winged baby named Cupid pierces their hearts for instant love. At the very least, females are given sweet smelling bouquet of roses, delectable boxes of chocolates and intimate dinner for two in the evening with soothing love songs playing in the background.

This year, it was one of my best Valentine’s Day ever. It was a great combination of my personal and professional life in the Selma community.

My morning was spent making a delivery to the workplace of a very special female. Her reaction to my gifts brought joy to my heart.

I always love it when someone appreciates my efforts and she certainly did. In the sports world, we call that making an immediate impact.

Goal accomplished.

The afternoon was spent watching a group of females- the Selma Hugh girl’s basketball team

Play in the Class 6A southwest regionals at Alabama State University.

I wasn’t surprised that the Lady Saints beat Gulf Shores 39-32, but I was impressed how they pulled off the victory.

Gulf Shores concentrated on stopping All-Star guard Rodericka Parker, the reigning Selma Times-Journal’s Girls basketball player of the year. She was held to seven points but still impacted the game with nine assists. She didn’t panic and let the game come to her. I applaud the other Lady Saints for delivering in the clutch. Credit to first-year Lady Saints coach Wil Morgan, who’s done an outstanding job.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Selma High found a way to knock off Northridge in the Regional Finals on Wednesday.

I’d strongly recommend making Valentine’s Day a national holiday in the United States. Congress and Senators should get together to draft legislation and present a bill to President Donald Trump. America needs all the love it can get.
