Selma High hasn’t reached the state girls basketball tournament in 12 years.

The Lady Saints (21-5) can end their state tournament drought with a win over Northridge High School in the Class 6A Southwest Regional Finals at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Alabama State University.

When Wil Morgan left R.C. Hatch to replace Anthony Harris last summer, his mission was getting the Lady Saints back into the Final Four. “Reaching the state tournament was one of the goals we set at the beginning of the season,” Morgan said.

Morgan said the Lady Saints must improve their play to beat Northridge. Selma High built a 16-point lead, but held off Gulf Shores 39-32 in the Regional semifinals last week.

“In the fourth quarter, we let our guard down a little and let them get back in the game,” Morgan said. “That’s something we’re going to work on, but the thing is we’re moving on and looking forward to the next round.”

Selma is led by Rodericka Parker, The Selma Times-Journal’s girls’ basketball player of the year in 2019.  Joining Parker in the starting lineup are Renari Wells, Saryah Pope, Alexias Walker and Aeraeonna Manuel. Takeirra Chappell and Cariah Simmons both come off the bench for the Lady Saints.
