A Selma man was arrested over the weekend for murder by the Selma Police Department (SPD).

According to SPD Chief Kenta Fulford, Terry Webster, 22, was arrested Saturday for one count of murder related to a homicide that occurred on Feb. 7 on the 2000 block of Keller Avenue.

Webster was arraigned Monday at the Dallas County Courthouse and charged with capital murder. Dallas County Circuit Court Judge Marvin Wiggins left Webster under no bond and he remains in the Dallas County Jail.

Fulford and Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson both said Webster turned himself in to Selma authorities. It’s the first murder in Selma this year.

The SPD identified the victim as a 17-year-old black male who died from an apparent gunshot wound. SPD did not reveal the victim’s name.

Witnesses were interviewed by the SPD and identified Webster as the primary subject. Witnesses also told the SPD that the two were involved in an altercation, leading up to the fatal shooting.

Fulford said the incident is being investigated by the SPD and an exact motive hasn’t been determined.

Webster’s preliminary hearing date is set for 9 a.m. on April 30.
