Selma High sweeps Area 5, Class 6A basketball championships

Selma High easily swept Stanhope-Elmore to win the Area 5, Class 6A basketball championships on Thursday night.
Jarvis Moss scored 27 points as the Saints cruised to a 74-51 win.
In the girls’ finals, Rodericka Parker had 16 points and 10 assists as the Lady Saints prevailed 65-38.
Selma (18-5) had two other double-digit scorers: Marqwavis Davis added 16 points and Michael Harris finished with 13.
“Winning the Area is one of the goals we set before the season,” Saints coach Darron Rembert said.
Moss and Davis each made the All-Tournament team.
Selma girls 65, Stanhope-Elmore 38: Aaraeonna Manuel finished with 14 points and 14 rebounds for the Lady Saints (18-5).
The Lady Saints got a big boost off the bench from Shnaya Johnson, who scored eight points and played solid defense in big minutes.
Parker, Johnson and Manuel made the All-tournament team.
“The girls worked hard and played hard,” Lady Saints coach Wil Morgan said. “Winning the area was one of the goals we set before the season. We reached it.”
