Morgan Academy boys, girls return to Elite Eight Basketball Tournament

Morgan Academy boys and girls punched their tickets into the AISA Elite Eight Basketball Tournament next week.

Jeremy Lee scored 24 points as the Senators pounced Russell Christian 80-47 in first-round action on Tuesday at home.

Bailey Brown scored 16 points as the Lady Senators hammered Russell Christian 49-33.

The Senators raced out to a 23-13 first quarter and never looked back as Lee scored 10 points in the first eight minutes.

“It was a good playoff win, we shot the ball well,” Senators coach Luke Hutcheson said. “It was a good way to start the playoffs.”

Chris Gardner also played well, scoring 17 points. George Turner added 11 points.

Morgan Academy girls 49, Russell Christian 33: Brown scored nine of her 16 points in the second half as the Lady Senators (7-13) turned a tight contest into a blowout.

Averee Adams finished with 10 points for the Lady Senators, winners of four straight contests.

“We started out slow, but we played better in the second half,” Lady Senators coach Lebo Jones said. “We’ve been playing well lately.”
