The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and Safe Harbor Women’s Medical Clinic are teaming for the Beards for Babies Campaign.

Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum presented a $750 check to Safe Harbor executive director Jennifer Dobbs on Tuesday at the Sheriff’s Office.

For the month of January, DCSO deputies grew beards for the campaign and donated $50 each. Beards are prohibited at the DCSO, until a vote was taken to allow facial hair for the charitable event.

Granthum said it’s important to assist Safe Harbor, a crisis pregnancy center that offers resources and classes to pregnant women seeking help or guidance during their pregnancy.

“Safe Harbor does so much for our community,” Granthum said. “We wanted to show Safe Harbor we appreciate them. The deputies enjoyed wearing the beards.”

Dobbs said donations in the community are always crucial to the organization because they do not receive federal or state funding.

“It’s great to know that the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office support us,” Dobbs said. “It’s important that we have a good relationship with them. They know our importance and we appreciate them.”
