The Dallas County Commission gathered for its first meeting of 2020 on Monday evening.
District 3 Commissioner Roy Moore presided over the first meeting of the year in the absence of the Commission Chairman, Dallas County Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn, who was attending a Probate Judge’s conference.
During Dallas County Engineer Coosa Jones’ departmental report, Jones sought approval for a loan of $593,500 from the general fund to the road department fund to pay off the lease on the existing Mack Triaxle Dump Trucks.
“To all of y’all that don’t know, this is a standard procedure that we do every year,” said Moore.
“All of our dump trucks are auctioned off. The [J.M.] Wood Auction Company [Inc.] guarantees a certain price. Most every time, that guarantee is above what’s owed on the dump trucks. But what we have to do is pay off the current amount that’s owed on the dump trucks so we can purchase some new dump trucks.”
Jones said the loan from the general fund would be paid back in March after the vehicles were auctioned off.
The Commission unanimously approved Jones’ request.
After an executive session toward the end of Monday’s meeting, Dallas County Attorney John Kelly requested the commission approve the motion to hire the Webb & Eely Law Firm to assist in the handling of pending property tax records.
The commission unanimously approved Kelly’s recommendation.
