After the success of its “Medical Matters” talks at the Selma-Dallas County Public Library, the library is continuing its partnership with UAB Family Medicine-Selma to bring back “Medical Matters” for 2020.

“’Medical Matters’ has been great,” said Selma-Dallas County Public Library Director Becky Nichols. “When we put this together, it was an idea to bring the hospital and the community closer together.”

According to the doctors at UAB Family Medicine Selma, the endeavor has been successful.

“People felt comfortable enough to ask us questions,” said Dr. Tiffani Maycock. “All of our doctors are very approachable.”

“I was surprised by how the community got engaged,” said Dr. Scott Bell. “They asked some really intelligent questions.”

The next series of “Medical Matters” presentations are based on the feedback from last year’s lectures.

“All of these topics are basically a compilation of what the community wanted to know about,” said Dr. Dunni Adetoba.

This year, the doctors from UAB Family Medicine-Selma will discuss a variety of topics, including heart healthy habits on Feb. 17, healthy eating with diabetes on March 6, men’s health on April 3 and memory on May 1.

“Our job here at the library is to provide people with information,” said Nichols. “’Medical Matters’ is another great way for us to do that.”

Each Medical Matters event will take place in the Vaughan Room of the library from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. and the first 25 participants will receive a free lunch provided by Vaughan Regional Medical Center (VRMC).
