Jan Justice, one of four candidates challenging incumbent Larry Nickles for the District 4 seat of the Dallas County Commission this March, hosted a clean-up over the weekend on Saturday morning.

Justice and around 40 others met at the vacant lot at the intersection of Landline Road and Hwy. 22 on Saturday morning and dispersed in all directions to rid the area of trash.

Justice said she would’ve loved to see more participants on Saturday morning, but was still excited by the amount of trash the group was able to pick up.

“It was a really great effort,” she said. “I want to continue to make trash pick-up one of the main efforts of my campaign.”

As Justice moves forward she hopes to host cleanup events in other areas in Dallas County, including the Riverview Historic District, J.L. Chestnut Jr. Blvd. and East Selma.

Justice said that after Saturday’s clean-up, landline road looks much better.

“It’s so nice to drive by and actually see the grass instead of bits of paper and plastic,” she said. “It feels great to see that we have people who care about the cleanliness of our county.”

After the success of Saturday’s clean up, Justice and her supporters brainstormed the idea to be part of a county-wide clean-up, independent from her own campaign.

“There are so many local groups that get together and pick up litter,” said Justice. “If every group worked together across the county for just one day we could make tremendous progress.”

Justice hopes to be part of a county-wide clean next month.
