The Committee to Elect Jan Justice for District 4 Dallas County Commissioner will host a community clean up at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning.

The group will meet at the vacant lot at the intersection of Hwy 22 and Landline Road, near Hancock’s Country BBQ, and then disperse in all directions to eradicate as much litter as possible.

Justice says she organized the clean-up not only to draw attention to her campaign but to rid the roadsides of garbage.

Justice feels that the littered roadsides send a negative message to Selma’s visitors.

“It makes me feel like they just don’t care,” she said. “But that isn’t true. The people of Selma do care and we all need to work together to send that message.”
Cleaning up the county’s roadsides is one of Justice’s main efforts as she campaigns for the District 4 seat on the Dallas County Commission.

“This is something we need to talk about,” said Justice. “We need to spread a positive attitude and increase awareness of this problem.”

Justice said that this weekend’s efforts will not be a one-time event.

“I want to keep cleaning up, not just in District 4 but other areas as well,” she said. “I just think we need the worst of it cleaned up.”

Justice encourages anyone interested in helping to meet up with the group on Saturday morning.

Justice said she will provide trash bags and vests, but any additional bags, vests and grabber tools will be appreciated.

To show appreciation for those who participate in the clean up, Justice said that lunch will be provided at 11:30 a.m.
