The Gospel of Tabernacle Church held an event for the homeless at the old Good Samaritan Building on Monday.

Church members gave bags to homeless that contained sleeping bags, blankets, winter clothes and coats. They also treated the homeless to a hot meal of hot dogs, coffee, soft drinks and soup.

The Son Light Center and Score International partnered with the Gospel of Tabernacle Church for the event.

Danielle Wooten, Gospel Tabernacle Church Outreach Director, said several local businesses and residents contributed to the church’s share and hope campaign.

“The support has been amazing,” Wooten said. “We reached out to the community and they donated items. We’ve had awesome financial donors.”

Wooten said the idea for the month-long campaign came from Gospel of Tabernacle Church Pastor John D. Grayson.

“The campaign came about because Pastor Grayson saw a need in the community with the cold weather season coming up,” Wooten said. “He also wanted to bring awareness to the homeless situation in Selma and Dallas County.”
