Dallas County and Selma High won the Dallas County Schools Basketball Tournament Boys and Girls championships.

Darrius Ellis scored 16 points and made 10 assists as Dallas County beat Keith High 66-55 in the tournament finals. Rodericka Parker scored 25 points as the Lady Saints hammered Wilcox Central 61-32 to repeat as girls champions.

The Hornets (11-2) pulled away from Keith late in the third quarter behind Ellis and Chance Lee, who scored a team-high 17 points.

When Keith got within 61-55 with 1:45 left, Michael Ervin and Aaron Strong each made big plays down the stretch. Ervin finished with 13 points, Strong added 12.

“It was a tough tournament, we knew it wouldn’t be easy beating the defending tournament champions,” Hornets coach Cliff Nix said. “I told the players to leave it out on the floor.”

The finals overshadowed a 31 point, 18 rebound performance from Keith’s All-State performer Arayvion Jones. Victor Millhouse Jr. added 11 points for the Bears (10-3), ranked third statewide in Class 1A.

Selma High girls 61, Wilcox Central 32: Parker scored 25 points and made eight assists as the Lady Saints (7-3) defended their tournament crown.

Aeraeonna Manuel scored 12 points and grabbed a game-high 19 rebounds.

“We’ve stressed playing hard nose defense all year,” Lady Saints coach Willie Morgan said. “My girls came to fight and played with intensity. I’m proud of them.”
