Carl Moore, better known to his WJAM Radio listeners as “Dr. Feelgood,” will celebrate his 51st birthday on Friday.

Moore has chosen to hold his 51st birthday celebration at Park Place Nursing Home.

Though it may seem an odd location for a birthday party, Moore said he wanted to do something for the elderly as the holiday season approaches.

“Santa Claus doesn’t go to the nursing home,” said Moore. “Dr. Feelgood goes to the nursing home.”

Moore says that, around Christmas, most people only think about children.

After visiting a family friend in the nursing home over the summer, Moore realized how much it means to the residents to be visited.

“This year, for my birthday, instead of having a party with people who can do something for me, I wanted to do something for people who couldn’t do anything for me,” said Moore.

To cater the party, Moore reached out to several local restaurants to donate food.

Moore secured donations from KFC, Church’s Chicken, Domino’s Pizza, Taco Bell, Regina Ragland Catering and soft drinks from Pepsi Cola.

Moore said that everyone he spoke with was happy to contribute to the party.

“They all said, ‘That’s a really good idea. It’s about time someone started thinking about the people in nursing homes,’” said Moore.

In addition to the food and drinks, Moore will make sure that all 103 of the nursing home’s residents receive a $10 gift thanks to donations from his WJAM listeners.

“I want to thank all of my listeners for their donations,” said Moore.
