Selma High sweeps Southside in Game 1 of Queen City Classic

The annual Queen City basketball rivalry between Selma High and Southside lived up to the hype.

Marqwavis Davis scored 17 points as the Saints prevailed 60-51 on Friday night at Southside Gymnasium.

Michael Harris added 12 points as the Saints improved to 7-3.

Southside jumped out to a 11-6 lead, but the Saints went on a 7-0 run to lead 13-11 after one quarter. Selma padded its lead to 31-13 at halftime and 46-25 after three quarters.

“We knew the game would be competitive and Southside would come out with intensity,” Saints coach Darron Rembert said. “We played good for three quarters, but we let them back into the game in the fourth. I’m glad we were able to hold on. It’s a good win. It’s important to beat our crosstown rivals.”

Taye Spears led Southside with 13 points, Ernest Hatcher added 12.

Selma girls 52, Southside 41: Rodericka Parker scored 23 points as the Lady Saints completed the sweep over Southside. Alexias Walker added 11 points for the Lady Saints.

Kylan Brown led the Lady Panthers with 16 points, 12 rebounds and six blocked shots. Caliyah Donaldson added 10 points.
