Weekend full of holiday activities

hough December has just begun, there is already plenty of Christmas cheer in the air in the Queen City.
This Saturday will mark the unofficial start to the holiday season with the annual City of Selma Christmas Parade, Christmas Tree River Walk and several other events.
The Christmas Parade is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at the corner of Water Avenue and Broad Street.
The parade will then turn right onto Water Avenue, right onto Broad Street, right onto Furniss Avenue, right onto Washington Avenue and then disband.
Selma – Dallas County Chamber of Commerce Director Sheryl Smedley said this years parade has over 100 participants.
Once the parade is over the festivities will continue at Riverfront Park for the Christmas Tree Riverwalk Opening Ceremony from 11 a.m. until noon.
The Riverwalk serves as a fundraiser for the Dallas County Family Resource Center (DCFRC).
Sponsors who have purchased a tree to benefit the DCFRC have spent the past couple of weeks decorating them for all to see this Saturday.
While attendees enjoy the sight of the trees, they’ll be able to enjoy a visit with Santa Claus, Christmas carols and hot chocolate.
This Saturday is also 1st Saturday Selma, so many of the usual stops on the Art Walk, like Tin Man Studio, Gallery 905 and the Harmony Club, are sure to be in on the holiday fun until 2 p.m.
The Selma Art Guild will have two “Make and Take” projects, including a snowman ornament and a Christmas tree banner.
While families participate in the “Make and Take” projects at the Selma Art Guild, they can enjoy the music of Charlie Porter, who’ll be playing gospel, soft jazz and Christmas favorites on his keyboard.
