Selma suspect faces capital murder charges

A complaint and warrant for capital murder was filed in Dallas County Open Court on Friday involving a Selma man.

According to Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson, Malik Carter was arraigned for capital murder from an incident that occurred last weekend. Jackson said the victim Carter shot in the neck died a few days ago. Jackson did not identify the victim. The charges went from attempted murder to capital murder because the victim died.

Dallas County Circuit Court Judge Collins A. Pettaway arraigned Carter, 20. He left Carter’s bond at $250,000 and Carter remains in the Dallas County Jail.

Pettaway and Dallas County District Court Judge Bob Armstrong appointed Attorneys Jeffrey Robinson and Cecil Fields to represent Carter. Armstrong appointed Fields to represent Carter during an initial court appearance Wednesday.

Pettaway set a preliminary hearing for Carter on Feb. 13 at 10 a.m.
