Voters across Dallas County will head to the polls in March to cast their vote in not only the presidential primaries, but many local offices as well.

The deadline for candidates to qualify was Friday, Nov. 8 – with all of the candidates now confirmed, it appears that all four incumbent Dallas County Commissioners will be challenged by at least one or more other candidates.

District 2 incumbent Roy Moore will face two challengers this March – Michael Irwin and Vivian Rogers.

Rogers, a lifelong resident of Dallas County, grew up in the Bogue Chitto community, the daughter of farmers and business owners.

As a resident of District 2, Rogers feels that leadership should be “about the people.”

“I want to be an accessible commissioner,” said Rogers. “That is how you make communities better, by listening to the people.”

If elected, Rogers wants to not only be an accessible, available commissioner, but also work to improve the county’s roads.

Rogers cited the condition of her own road as another of the factors that sparked her candidacy.

In addition to the condition of county roads, Rogers, like many other candidates, sees trash as another of the problems Dallas County currently faces.

“We’ve got to clean up this trash,” said Rogers. “Clean streets will bring more businesses to Dallas County.”

Rogers believes that her people skills make her an ideal candidate for the District 2 seat on the Dallas County Commission.

“Communication is key,” said Rogers. “I want to be a servant to the people of Dallas County, not just a name as commissioner.”
