Irwin cites love of county as inspiration for candidacy

Voters across Dallas County will head to the polls in March to cast their vote in not only the presidential primaries, but many local offices as well.
The deadline for candidates to qualify was Friday, Nov. 8 – with all of the candidates now confirmed, it appears that all four incumbent Dallas County Commissioners will be challenged by at least one or more other candidates.
District 2 Incumbent Roy Moore will face two challengers this March – Michael Irwin and Vivian Rogers.
Irwin, though not born in Dallas County, has called the Selma-Dallas County area home for 51 years and for the past 26 he has worked as a juvenile probation officer.
“This is where my roots are,” said Irwin.
Irwin makes no effort to hide his love for the Selma-Dallas County area, saying that his love for his home is what spurned him to run for commissioner.
“I love Selma,” said Irwin. “I can’t say it enough. This is the place I call home. My family is here. This has been on my heart for about a year and a half now. I just want a chance to give back.”
If elected, Irwin says there are a number of problems within the county he’d like to address, including the condition of Dallas County’s roads and the trash that litters them.
“Appearance is important,” said Irwin. “We need our county to look clean in order to attract businesses.”
Irwin says he understands the frustration of the people of Dallas County and wants to “look outside of the box” to solve problems.
“I’m a solutions oriented person,” said Irwin.
If elected, Irwin promises to make himself available and hear the concerns of the people of District 2, a quality he believes is important in an elected official.
“I’m all ears,” he said.
