Voters across Dallas County will head to the polls in March to cast their vote in not only the presidential primaries, but many local offices as well.

The deadline for candidates to qualify was Friday, Nov. 8 – with all of the candidates now confirmed, it appears that all four incumbent Dallas County Commissioners will be challenged by at least one or more other candidates.

District 1 Incumbent Valerie Reubin will be challenged in the coming election by Connel Towns, who formerly held the District 1 seat on the Dallas County Commission for four terms, between 2000 and 2016, before losing the vote to Reubin.

Shortly before his final term ended, Towns was awarded the Tenure in Office Award by the Association of County Commissions of Alabama (ACAA), which is given to commissioners who have served at least 16 years in office.

This March, Towns hopes voters will “give him another chance to prove himself as a Dallas County Commissioner.”

Towns feels his previous 16 years as commissioner make him an ideal candidate.

“I think there’s a lot of things I can bring to the table,” said Towns.

Towns cited the condition of the county’s roads as a major problem to be addressed.

“The biggest issue is the condition of our roads,” said Towns.

If elected, Towns also said he’d focus on assisting his district’s senior citizens, teenagers and children.

Towns proved himself eager to once again serve as a Dallas County Commissioner.

“Give me another chance to prove myself,” said Towns.
