The R.B. Hudson students are Alexandria Williams, Jaidaeliz Tyus, Danielle Lesure, Ke’Shaye Savage, Jayla Franklin, Kameryn Martin, Zyterrious Reed, Corbyn Boyd, Rachel Curtis and Alexis Perry.

SOD Principal Yosondra Lett said the trip is part of her goal into combining academics and arts.

“My vision is to make SOD into an Academy of Interdisciplinary studies,” Lett said. “I want to combine the four core subjects: English, History, Science and Math with the arts. We have formal dance, African dance, the band and choir.”

R.B. Hudson Principal Cicely Curtis said the school is honored to work together with SOD for the trip.

“We are elated to collaborate with Mrs. Lett and our School of Discovery family on this exciting trip to New York City,” Curtis said. “One of the attractions that we will visit while in New York City is Broadway to see Lion King, which is a production that our scholars will perform in May.”

Other sites the students will see include Madison Square Garden, Rockerfeller Center, Central Park and Harlem.

“I feel this trip is important because it gives the students an opportunity to travel and have a visual of the different tour sites that we will visit,” SOD Guidance Counselor Kesia Smith said. “For some students, this will be their first time flying and leaving the state.”

Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson donated for the students’ trip. Smith said both schools are seeking funds from other sponsors.
