Dallas County voters will go to the polls in March to vote in the presidential primaries and cast ballots for a variety of local offices.

According to the Dallas County Democratic Executive Committee, at least 23 people had qualified to run as Democrats in next year’s local elections by the close of business Friday, the deadline for candidates to qualify.

The position of constable is being eyed by eight candidates, including incumbents Jasper Bowie of Selma, Bert Scott of Valley Grande and Christopher Peterson of Selma.

Also qualifying to run for constable are Douglas Nicholas of Selma, Gregory Thomas of Selma, K.C. Bailey of Selma, Khadija S. Ishaq of Selma and Herbert Blackmon of Orrville.

Each paid a $25 fee to qualify for the position.

Dallas County Commissioner Valerie Reubin will be running for reelection to her District 1 seat and will face off against Connel Towns of Selma in the primaries.

Dallas County Commissioner Roy Moore is running for reelection to his District 2 seat and will face off against two Democratic primary contenders, Michael Irwin of Valley Grande and Vivian Rogers of Selma.

Dallas County Commissioner Curtis Williams will only have one opponent to go up against in his bid to keep his District 3 seat, Channie Chapman of Selma.

The  most contentious primary race will be for Dallas County Commissioner Larry Nickels’ District 4 seat.

Four candidates have qualified to run against Nickels next year, including Jerry Phillips of Orrville, Barry Allen of Orrville, William Lumpkin of Orrville and Jan Justice of Selma.

Dallas County Tax Assessor Weida Sheehan is running to keep her position and will face off against Carroll Bonner of Sardis in the March primary.

At least one candidates will be running without a primary opponent – Dallas County School Board President Leroy Miles, Jr., who is running for reelection to his District 5 school board seat.
