The Selma Art Guild held its first Visual Arts-Music Series on Saturday.

New Selma Art Guild Artist Beth Walker displayed her Walker’s Woolies and Fiber Arts skills. The Central Alabama Strummers trio of Martha Harris, Jim Buchanan and Anita Barlowe performed and played the Guitar and Dulcimers.

The Selma Art Guild received two grants from the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts for a Visual Arts-Music Series. Jo Taylor, who works on promoting the art guild, said one grant goes to music and the other grant is used for technical support.

“Part of our mission is for arts education,” Walker said. “We came up with the idea, why not mix arts with music.”

Walker arrived in Selma with her husband and their son last year. The Walkers moved from Bay Minette and own American Plane Painting Company.

“I used to teach in Bay Minette and just found out about the Art Guild,” Walker said. “I’m totally excited about being part of the art guild.”

Taylor said the Visual Arts-Music series will be held on the first Saturday of each month.

“I’m hoping we can create foot traffic and get a lot of support for the Arts-Music Series,” Taylor said. “We’re one of the smallest cities to get a grant.”
