The Selma Rotary Club hosted its premier “Draw Down” event on Tuesday evening at Bloch Park.
For the past several months, Rotarians have been selling tickets for the event in order to raise money for scholarships to support local students
The tickets sold by Rotarians included four smoked chicken plates and the chance to win $5,000.
Rotarians were at Bloch Park all afternoon preparing food for those who purchased tickets to support their cause.
‘We’re trying our best as Rotarians to make sure this event is beneficial to all concerned,” said Selma Rotary Club President James Steele.
According to Steele, the mission to raise money for scholarships aligns with the Rotary Club’s motto, “service above self”.
“Everybody has a future and the children are our future,” said Steele.
Steele attributed the idea for the Draw Down to Rotarian Tyler Adkins.
Adkins pitched the idea and it was then sanctioned by the Rotary Board of Directors.
“The end goal with what we’re trying to accomplish here is give back,” said Adkins. “It’s important to invest in our area’s youth.”
David Cothran was the winner of the raffle.
