Turnovers doomed Southside in its final Region 3, Class 3A contest of the season.
No. 10 St. James converted five Southside miscues into 20 points en-route to a 48-14 victory on Thursday at Panther Stadium.
Southside (4-5, 3-4) closes its season against A.L. Johnson on Halloween.
“We do a lot of good things, but we’re not doing the little things right,” Panthers coach Charles Moody said. “We’ve got to learn how to do the little things right.”
The Panthers hung tough in the first quarter, leading 8-7 on Ernest Hatcher’s 20-yard touchdown run and KeAndre Williams adding a two-point conversion run.
St. James (8-1, 6-1) led 10-8 after one quarter on Austin Gavin’s 3-yard touchdown run and Jan Wachowitz’s 30-yard field goal.
The Trojans outscored Southside 10-0 in the second quarter on Drew Fett’s 15-yard touchdown pass to Alex Whisenhunt and Wachowitz’s 40-yard field goal for a 20-8 halftime lead.
St. James pushed its lead to 34-8 after three quarters on Fett’s 15-yard touchdown pass to Ethan Beard and Gavin’s 10-yard touchdown run.
The Trojans’ final two scores came on Fett’s 39-yard touchdown pass to Beard and backup quarterback Cosner Harrison’s 25-yard touchdown run.
Williams scored the Panthers’ final points on a 8-yard touchdown run in the closing seconds.
