John Parker Wilson shared memories of his football career at the Selma Quarterback Club on Monday at the Selma Convention Center.
Wilson was a three-year starting quarterback at Alabama from 2006 to 2008. Coach Nick Saban arrived to the Capstone in 2007 and eventually led the Crimson Tide to five national championships since.
Before Wilson became the Crimson Tide’s career passing leader, the Montgomery native led Hoover High School to a pair of state championships.
“It’s special to go around the state and talk to different quarterback clubs,” Wilson said. “It’s been a pretty good run for me.”
Wilson is currently a second-year color analyst for Alabama football on the radio, alongside Eli Gold. Wilson recalled how he got the gig.
“Coach Saban called me last summer and asked if I wanted to do Alabama football games, I said, ‘Hell yes I would.’ I grew up listening to Eli Gold and Kenny Stabler do Alabama football games.”
Wilson, 34, called the ankle injury to current Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa ‘unfortunate,’ but sees why he’s an NFL prospect.
“Tua’s a great talent you don’t see very often,” Wilson said. “I’m impressed with his accuracy. He throws the ball to the right spot.”
Wilson and his wife, Tyler, are expecting their second child later this year. They have a son named Parks.
