Keith High’s state playoff hopes are on the line.
The Bears (3-4, 1-3 Region 3, Class 1A) host Francis Marion on Friday at J.V. Caldwell Stadium in Orrville.
Keith, coming off an open date, must beat both the Rams and at A.L. Johnson (Oct. 25) to reach the Class 1A state playoffs next month. A split will all but eliminate the Bears from the postseason.
“The bye week gave us a chance to get some guys healthy, a chance to get some clarity with our guys, our blocking scheme and evaluate others at different positions,” Bears coach Anthony Lumpkin said.
Selma High at Wetumpka: The Saints (4-3, 2-2 Region 3, Class 6A) travel to Wetumpka for playoff seeding. A win puts Selma as the third seed, while a loss drops the Saints as the fourth seed.
“It will be a tough game for us they have a dangerous quarterback that can make plays with legs,” Saints coach Willie Gandy said. “Defensively we have to keep him contain and not give up big plays..”
Southside at Bullock County: A berth in the Class 3A state playoffs is at stake when Southside (4-3, 3-2) travels to Bullock County.
‘’We will not shy away from a moment like this, we are actually excited and grateful to have put ourselves in the position,” Panthers coach Charles Moody said. “This is a game where we have to put together a complete game and use everything we have been taught over the course of the season.”
Dallas County at Elmore County: The Hornets (3-4) take a break from Region 3, Class 4A competition. Dallas County remains in position to land a Class 4A state playoff berth.
“Elmore County is a well-balanced team that will hurt you with its single wing offense,” Hornets coach Heath LeVert said. “Another week of responsibility football and after last week’s embarrassing lost at West Blocton, we need a step in the right direction.”
Morgan Academy at Evangel Academy: The Senators (3-5) try to spoil the Lightning’s homecoming contest. Morgan Academy coach Josh Thacker said the Lightning reminds him of Bessemer Academy, who the Senators fell 28-14.
“We’ve been able to build a little momentum in the second of the half season so we hope to keep that going,” Thacker said. “We’re taking each day to improve fundamentally and grow as a program. Evangel is similar to Bessemer in terms of scheme so last week should help”
Meadowview Christian at Chambers Academy: The Trojans (0-6) travel to face second-ranked and unbeaten Chambers Academy (8-0).
“Chambers is the best team that we have played this year,” MCS coach Bob Taylor said. “They are good in all phases of the game. It will be a tough game.”
Ellwood Christian Academy at Isabella: ECA (1-6, 1-4) travels to face fourth-ranked Isabella in Maplesville.
The Eagles snapped a 45-game losing streak last week, winning at A.L. Johnson High School. It marked ECA’s first victory in three years.
ECA coach Ray Blanks has praised the Eagles’ effort for the past two weeks.
