The Beloit Community Center held its second annual Rib Cook off and Car Show on Saturday.
Several local residents participated. Event coordinator Salisha Parker said proceeds go toward improving the Beloit Community Center.
“We’re trying to make this an annual event,” Parker said. “We’re all doing this to keep the community center open. The center is very important to the community. It’s important to keep the center going.”
During the competition, catfish, Whiting Fish, ribs, chicken, hot dogs and polish sausage were sold by the Beloit Community Association (BCA). Two bouncy houses were available for the kids to play in.
BCA Secretary Ashley Walker-Hale said it’s all about improving the Beloit Community Center.
“We’re doing things to keep the community center open,” Walker-Hale said. “We accept help from other communities.”
Keith High School Principal Tommy Tisdale was among the residents who participated in the Cook Off. His group, Tisdale’s Backyard Bar-B-Que, won first prize.
Second place went to Hits the Spot Bar-B-Que, led by Nicholas “Nick” Sturdivant. Taking third place was the Safford Boys Bar-B-Que, led by Lu Woods.
