Southside salvaged a split with its top two Dallas County rivals.
Mariyon Johnson and Dre Williams each scored two touchdowns as the Southside knocked off Keith 36-14 on Friday night at Panther Stadium.
Johnson had 140 yards receiving for the Panthers (3-2). Williams ran for over 130 yards. Taye Spears had over 100 receiving yards and a touchdown. Ernest Hatcher had 80 yards receiving.
“We did not play a clean game, we got caught up in the emotions,” Panthers coach Charles Moody said. “They scored first. We did a good job responding to the things what Keith was doing.”
The Panthers lost to their biggest rival, Selma High 28-20 in the season opener on Aug. 30 at Memorial Stadium.
Quarterback Jared Edwards scored both touchdowns for the Bears (3-3). Both of Edwards’ touchdowns came on a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs.
Keith coach Anthony Lumpkin said the Panthers’ passing offense was the difference. The Bears have a two-game losing streak.
“They beat us in the air,” Lumpkin said. “They connected on big plays and hit long passes. We were outplayed.”
Keith beat Southside 29-20 last year at Caldwell Stadium.
