Turnovers were the difference in Meadowview Christian School fell to Ezekiel Academy 63-30 on Thursday at Wadsen Field.
MCS falls to 0-4 on the season, remaining winless since returning to AISA competition last year.
MCS’ seven turnovers led to 28 Ezekiel Academy points, which Trojans coach Bob Taylor said was a big factor.
“If we don’t have the turnovers, its a different game,” Taylor said. “I’m not saying that we would’ve won the game, but the turnovers were huge. Alabama isn’t winning with six turnovers.”
MCS quarterback Christian Jones shined in defeat for the Trojans, accounting for over 200 yards of total offense. He threw a 65-yard touchdown pass to Chemar McGuire and scored on a pair of two-point conversions.
Tariq Mangram and Braxton Taylor each scored a pair of touchdowns for the Trojans.
The Knights (5-1) playing in their first-ever 11-man football game, got a stellar performance from quarterback Austin DeVaughn, who had 404 yards of total offense and eight touchdowns. The junior left-hander completed 14 of 18 passes for 276 yards and six touchdowns. He also ran 11 times for 80 yards and two more touchdowns. DeVaughn had a 48 yard interception return.
“I’m not going to take credit for the win,” DeVaughn said. “I had a good game because of my offensive line and wide receivers. The line blocked and the receivers caught the passes.”
