Selma Fisherman wins black Belt fish Photo contest

Fishing is the perfect way for Rickie Knight to spend time with his family.

The most recent trip on the Chilatchee Creek resulted in Knight winning the Alabama Black Belt Adventures Association  (ALBBAA) Best Black Belt Fish Photo Contest.

Knight caught a big bass with one of his grandsons, Gauge Knight. His wife, Carol, was also on the trip that took place in July..

The photo taken on the boat picked up the most votes. Knight won a half-day guided fishing trip at Lake Eufaula led by expert Tony Adams and a night at  Lakepoint State Park. The prize package is valued at $430.

“It’s a big deal,” Knight said. “I’m definitely proud of my grandson, Gauge. We love Lake Eufaula, so we’re very excited to win this contest.”

Knight has worked over 25 years at International Paper Riverdale Mill, where he’s currently a Supervisor. The Sherman, Texas native has lived in Selma over the last 35 years.

Knight said he enjoys fishing with the family. His son, Chase Knight, is married to Brandi. They have four children: Gauge, Jayden, Paisley and Spur. Knight’s other son, Jake, is married to Cameron. They have a son, Foster.

The Black Belt includes the following counties: Barbour, Bullock, Butler, Choctaw, Clarke, Conecuh, Crenshaw, Dallas, Greene, Hale, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Monroe, Montgomery, Perry, Pickens, Pike, Russell, Sumter, Tuscaloosa and Wilcox.
