Barbara “Joyce” (Booker) Phoenix

Barbara “Joyce” (Booker) Phoenix, 85, of Portsmouth, New Hampshire and formerly of Selma, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2019 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital. The family wishes to thank all of her physicians and especially the nurses and staff, 4th floor Portsmouth Regional Hospital for their care and caring. Also Fr. Chip, his wife Cindy and the congregation at Christ Episcopal Church in Portsmouth.

Born June 16, 1934 in Russellville, Joyce was the daughter of Bennie Lee Booker and Frankie (McDaniel) Booker. She was a graduate of Albert G. Parish High School in Selma, Alabama and was a member of the Selma Baptist Church and Christ Episcopal Church in Portsmouth. Joyce was predeceased by her husband, Col. Robert D. Phoenix (USAF ret.) in 2005, brothers Stanley P. Booker and Ben T. Booker.

Survivors include two sons and their families: R. Timothy Phoenix, his wife Cheryl and their children Joshua, Taylor and her husband Gordon Adams; Thomas A. Phoenix and daughters Shelby and Paige; brother, Lowell “Rusty” Booker and his wife Vicky; sisters-in-law, Jean Booker and Carolyn Booker  and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Friday August 30, 2019 at 11 a.m. in New Live Oak Cemetery with Selma Funeral Home directing.
