A teenage girl was killed from injuries suffered in a ATV 3-wheeler accident on Wednesday.
According to Selma Police Chief Robert Green, officers from the Selma Police Department were called to the 800 block of Agee Avenue around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday regarding an ATV 3-wheeler accident.
When the SPD and SFD arrived to the scene, they found the girl lying face down in the rear driveway of 2700 Elm Street. The victim sustained multiple injuries and was unresponsive. Officers also found a 21-year-old man lying face down in the front yard of 800 Agee Avenue. The second victim was also unresponsive.
The female victim died from her injuries. The male victim was later airlifted to UAB hospital in Birmingham.
Witnesses told the SPD that the two victims were seen traveling west on Agee Avenue prior to the accident. Witnesses stated the victims were riding an ATV 3-wheeler, driven by the female victim, without safety equipment and left the roadway at the intersection of Agee Avenue and Elm Street. The two occupants were ejected almost immediately when the ATV left the roadway.
The SPD did not reveal the identities of the two victims. Green said the case is still under investigation by the SPD’s traffic division.
“It’s one of these unfortunate situations,” Green said. “I don’t see how citizens persist on riding these ATV vehicles without equipment. It’s very dangerous.”
