Bob Prescott, of LED Solutions, went before the Dallas County Commission Monday evening during the public comments section discuss potential lighting solutions needed at the Dallas County Jail.

Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum went before the commission roughly 3 months ago to discuss the lighting at the jail, then citing it as “20 – 30 years old” and “in need of improvement”.

According to Prescott, LED Solutions worked with Granthum and performed an audit of the jail to asses current lighting problems and additional need for lighting at the facility.

Prescott delivered a presentation delivering an overview of LED Solutions’ approach to lighting and how using the company would benefit Dallas County.

“What we do is we use service agreements to upgrade lighting for all types of manufacturers, cities, counties, schools, hospitals…we do a lot of larger projects…,” said Prescott. “What we do is try to make lighting affordable for folks who don’t want to spend a big outlay of cash to get their lighting.”

Prescott outlined how then lighting can be affordable and the reasons it’s in the best interest of the county to upgrade, citing the new lighting as long lasting, powerful and of a high quality.

“What we figured is if we put together a service agreement, where it doesn’t cost anyone anything up front to make the change, but made it affordable because its payed for by the savings it generates, then more people would take advantage of it,” said Prescott.

Prescott then stated that LED Solutions service agreements typically run for five years before being turned over to a service agreement recipient, and that everything is warrantied for 10 years.

“For 10 years, you won’t have to buy another light, ballast or bulb, “said Prescott. “It works pretty well and I think you’ll see from the pictures that we can generate the safety you’re looking for out there without having to make a big investment by the county up front.”

Prescott provided the county with a concept illustration showing lighting at the Dallas County Courthouse, the courthouse annex and the Dallas County Jail.

“We count every bulb and every fixture in the facilities and then we show you what the comparative is in LED wattage and the difference in what you pay for the power and the difference in the wattage burned is where your savings come from,” said Prescott.

Prescott called cited the potential new lighting at the county jail as huge savings for the county.

“We’d love to help Dallas County in improving these facilities,” added Prescott.

Dallas County Commissioner Roy Moore thanked Prescott for the presentation and for the information provided.
