Young praised Muhammad for his commitment to excellence.

“We wanted Jibrail to know we’re proud of him,” Young said. “This young man represents the best of us. Wherever Jibrail goes, he’ll take a piece of Selma with him.”

Each year Muhammad attends school at Alabama A&M, he will receive $500 from the 100 Black Men of Selma as long as he maintains a 3.0 GPA.

Muhammad has surpassed those expectations, finishing his freshman year with a 3.6 GPA.

“For this young man to have that high a GPA majoring in engineering is impressive,” Young said.

Muhammad, Selma High’s class president in 2018, was the 2018 Paul M. Grist Boy of the Year.
