The Bloom House continues to assist area foster children with their 2nd annual Back to School Bash now underway.

The fundraiser aims to collect school supplies for children in Kindergarten through the 12th grade in order to prepare them for the rapidly approaching school year.

The Bloom House is accepting a variety of school supplies including plastic pocket folders, safety scissors, No. 2 pencils, mechanical pencils, composition notebooks, glue sticks, spiral notebooks, crayons, notebooks, notebook paper, highlighters and rulers.

“One of our goals here at Bloom House is to foster the foster families,” said Bloom House Administrative Assistant Sam Jones. “Foster families have a hard time getting all of this stuff. School supplies are expensive, for anyone, and when you’re talking about families who have taken in five children, once you include uniforms, it’s really expensive.”

Supplies can be dropped off at The Bloom House, located at 705 Dallas Avenue,

during business hours Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and at The Coffee Shoppe at 308 Broad Street until July 24.

Those interested in helping can also sponsor a child for $30. The payment ensures that a child will get all that they need to begin the school year.

The Back to School Bash will take place July 27, where the foster children can come by to pick up their supplies and experience a fun day of other activities including a caricature artist and a catered lunch.

“It’s not this ho-hum sad thing where they walk into an office and grab their supplies and go back home,” said Jones. “They get to have fun. It gets them excited for back to school.”
