Collon Holbrook continues to shine on the national Motocross scene.

The Valley Grande resident will be competing in the Rocky Mountain ATV Amateur National Motocross Championships at Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee on July 29-Aug. 3.

Holbrook, 8, will be making his third straight appearance in the national event. Two years ago, Holbrook finished fourth overall in the 51 cc (4-6) Shaft Drive Limited class.

“I’m real excited about competing in the race,” Holbrook said. “It was a hard year to qualify this time.”

Holbrook qualified for nationals by finishing sixth at the Southeast Regionals held in Hamner, South Carolina.

Bike racing is a year-round event for Holbrook, a third-grader at Valley Grande Elementary School. He races in both the arena and outdoor circuits.  During the winter, Holbrook races in the Arena Cross Series. He competes in the Alabama State Series during the summer.  He rides a TC 50 Husky Varna.

“I don’t want to play any other sports, I just want to race,” Holbrook said.

Holbrook has an impressive resume in motocross. He has a dozen number one plates from first-place finishes. Holbrook also raced in the KTM Challenge, which was held at AT&T Stadium, home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.

Amanda Holbrook, Holbrook’s mother, said the races often provides a few tense moments for her.

“It makes me nervous when he’s flying in the air,” Amanda said.

The entire Holbrook family goes on the road for Motocross events. Holbrook’s father, Chad, serves as his coach.  Holbrook’s three other siblings also travel with him to events: Ragen Belcher, 11; Callen Holbrook, 7, and Cohen Holbrook,  3.

“We’re all very proud of him,” Amanda said. “Collon has that heart and drive, he never gives up.”

Amanda thanked her son’s sponsors: Troy Miller, Taylor Miller and Bry Corbin at Crossbone MX Ranch, Flow Vision, Pro taper, 396 Graphics, Pro-FLO racing and Fly Racing team 2019.
