Fourth of July plans and a new Resolution dominated Valley Grande’s City Council meeting on Monday night.

The City Council passed Resolution 2019-101, which sets salaries for the incoming mayor and city council in November 2020.  The mayor’s salary will be $800 per month. Salary for the city council members will be $200 per meeting, not to exceed $400 a month.

Valley Grande Mayor Matt Dobbs said that’s the standard salaries for Board of Directors.

The city council also discussed its Fourth of July plans for the holiday on Thursday at Valley Grande City Park. Events start at 7 p.m.

ARC Pyrotechnics Inc., a company based out of Guthrie, Oklahoma, will provide the Fireworks display at 9 p.m.

The Valley Grande Christmas Pageant winners will drive into the park on a truck with hay bells.  Dixie Country 100 will broadcast live starting at 7 p.m.

Valley Grande Public Safety Director Boyd Pugh told the city council that the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) recently made a surprise inspection in the city. Pugh said it’s a normal five-year procedure.

City Clerk/Treasurer Janet Frasier said everything’s fine and ADEM is waiting to take a sample from the sewer. The sewer is still being worked on.

“ADEM likes to get their own sample,” Pugh said.
