Reubin hears concerned citizens

Dallas County Commissioner Valerie Reubin hosted a community meeting at Summer Grove Missionary Baptist Church on Thursday night in order to hear the questions and concerns of the residents of Indian Avenue, Main Street, West Drive, North Avenue, Twenty Foot, Henry Street, Pin Oak Drive, Hope Street and Freedom Place.
Reubin has already hosted four community meetings this year. Rather than hold one enormous meeting for her entire district, Reubin has chosen to address neighborhoods and communities individually to better hear their concerns.
Reubin believes that listening to the citizens is a crucial step in getting things done in the community.
“The people elected us, so it’s important that we listen to them,” she said.
According to Reubin, Thursday’s meeting was well attended with plenty of citizens turning out to voice their concerns and ask questions.
Reubin said that the main concerns brought up by the citizens at Thursday night’s meeting were roads that need repaved and striped, the trash along the sides of roads and sidewalks, sewage issues and mosquitoes.
Reubin took note of the concerns to bring before the Dallas County Commission and provided the citizens with numbers to call to hopefully resolve their issues.
“We want to provide the people with answers,” said Reubin. “And if we don’t know the answers we’ll find people that do. My biggest concern is providing people with safe, clean places to live.”
